Hi! I’m Tom. I am a Registered Social Worker in Ontario. That means that I can legally call myself a social worker. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and a Master of Social Work degree from King’s University College in London Ontario. That’s the boring part. Here’s the more interesting part.
I am a parent of 6 biological children, and 3 adopted children. My wife and I have been foster parents with Huron Perth Children’s Aid Society since 2007. My experience with the child welfare system in Ontario and with adoption is a big part of my motivation to help other people who have been affected by adoption or CAS involvement. As a foster and adoptive parent I have spent much time in the past several years listening to the voices of people who have been adopted, spent time in foster care, or have lost the right to care for their children. Doing so has helped me to be a better foster parent, and to better understand how being adopted may affect my own adopted children as they grow up.
I also grew up in a religious community and have done significant personal work coming to terms with how that has affected me, and continues to affect me. As a result I have a special interest in helping other people who have been harmed by their own religious experiences.
If you choose to trust me enough to schedule a therapy session with me I hope that my experience will help us to build a relationship that will be beneficial to you. I will do my best to help you in whatever area of your life that you are struggling with. Our time together will focus on the things that you want to focus on and I will do what I can to make sure that our work together will help you meet your goals.
